IACC Virtual Law Enforcement Training Summary

Port of New York - JFK

June 9th & 10th

The IACC recently welcomed its first virtual CBP training with two full days of brand instruction. Over 50 brands presented materials featuring Health & Safety, Pharmaceuticals, Electronics/Software/Hardware, Apparel & Footwear, Personal Care and Consumer Mass Marketing categories. CBP Officers, Import Specialists as well as Fines, Penalties & Forfeiture personnel received instruction on the latest materials and trends in the fight against fakes.

CBP was provided the training agenda in advance, enabling officials to attend only those presentations that interested them. The schedule was maintained from the 9:00am start to the 3:00pm conclusion, ensuring each category appeared on time. The IACC also facilitated the sharing of brand presentations with CBP-JFK. Additionally, pharmaceutical presentations were requested by the Centers of Excellence and Expertise (Pharma) and will reside in their database.

Rights holders were advised that our Law Enforcement Training App enables them to share their materials with law enforcement 24/7/365. Contact Mike Walsh mwalsh@iacc.org for more information.

We would like to extend our appreciation to Customs & Border Protection, especially the Port of New York - JFK for their assistance in organizing these events. The IACC supports and thanks all members of law enforcement for their ongoing service.

These collaborative events between government and industry serve to strengthen enforcement and increase their ability to deter sales of counterfeit products and effectively interdict violators. The IACC continues to explore law enforcement training opportunities for its members. In the next few weeks, we anticipate scheduling virtual training with HSI and CBP - Port of Newark.

    What is it?

The IACC Law Enforcement Training Apps complement our training programs by providing law enforcement with relevant tools to enhance their IP protection efforts and to connect instantly with brands. The Apps are available in the U.S. and in Latin America (in Spanish and Portuguese) and are used by thousands of law enforcement in these areas. They contain training manuals, crucial company contacts for participating brands and national and state laws.

    Why should brands participate?

The Apps are an efficient and cost-effective way to get brands' contact information and materials in front of law enforcement in the U.S. and Latin America. This allows law enforcement to contact the brand directly and immediately from the field. Brands decide what and how much content they want to include. All brand information are kept confidential. Only vetted and approved law enforcement officials can access brand content.

Members participate FOR FREE in both the U.S. and Latin America Apps. Don’t know if your company is already in the App or interested in joining? Please contact Mike Walsh (mwalsh@iacc.org).

    Why should law enforcement participate?

The IACC App allows law enforcement to access important product and brand information on their mobile devices which facilitates timely contact with brands and access to relevant information. For further information on how to apply, contact Mike Walsh (mwalsh@iacc.org)
