IACC Meets with Guardia di Finanza

GdF meeting wIACC 6-2024

IACC President Bob Barchiesi and Vice President for Training Mike Walsh recently met with General Commanders of four GdF Academies (L'Aquila, Ostia, Bari and Bergamo) and other senior leaders of the Guardia di Finanza to discuss plans for our second Law Enforcement Training event, tentatively scheduled for 2025. This initiative builds on our enduring partnership with the GdF, which began in 2015 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and the coordination of a highly successful training event that drew over 600 cadets and officials.

IACC Goes to WIPO

In early July, IACC Vice President for Legislative Affairs Travis Johnson joined representatives of IP-focused organizations from around the world to participate in the World Intellectual Property Organization’s annual WIPO-NGO Stakeholder Dialogue. Topics of discussion were centered largely around the role of IP protection and enforcement in global development and international trade, as well as both opportunities and concerns related to emerging technologies such as generative AI.

While in Geneva, the IACC also had the opportunity to meet with Todd Reves, Director of WIPO’s Building Respect for IP Division, to learn more about WIPO’s ongoing initiatives related to capacity building, and increasing awareness of the importance of IP rights through the education of both consumers and policymakers.

On July 23, IACC Vice President for Legislative Affairs, Travis Johnson, joined colleagues from the International Intellectual Property Alliance and the Motion Picture Association on a panel held by the State Department’s Foreign Service Institute as part of a training program for U.S. government staff serving in embassies and consulates around the world.

The session, entitled “What Does US Business Need From Us?” aims to provide embassy personnel – including economic officers with portfolios including intellectual property – with a solid foundation on IP basics, current trends in enforcement, and rights-holders’ priorities in jurisdictions across the globe, while sharing best practices for engagement and mutual assistance between public- and private-sector stakeholders.
